BEHIND HOPE WITHIN INITIATIVE
Hope Within Initiative, Inc. (HWI) provides a comprehensive response to the increasing number of people who are released from prisons and jails that are returning to our communities. We aspire to provide comprehensive and collaborative strategies that address the challenges posed by reentry. Our vision is to increase public safety and reduce recidivism.

To impact youth, we use culturally relevant education and training to prevent interaction with the criminal justice system and increased use of drugs and alcohol. Currently preventing youth and young adults from using opioids and other drugs is the central focus of our work.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that since 1999, there has been an increase in drug overdoses involving opioids among those ages 15-19, with heroin being the highest cause of overdose in 2015 among this age group. Thanks to a $100,000 grant from AmerisourceBergen Foundation we will provide education and training, drug prevention services and host a program to return unused opioids in 2020 and beyond.

HWI was also awarded a grant to administer the Treatment, Education, Mutual Help Groups, Prevention (TEMP) Initiative. TEMP facilitators will use curriculum included in the State of Ohio Start Talking movement to combat the effects of the opioid epidemic that has ravaged Northwest Ohio by targeting youth in grades K-12 and their parents, living in zip codes 43605 and 43612.
